A six week course on the Basics of Photography will be held at the studio of Denise Smith Photography beginning Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6:30-9:00pm. Sign up and learn the principles of taking better photos.
Students are required to have their own 35 mm (film or digital) camera. NO point and shoot cameras.
Class size is STRICTLY limited. The Class fee is $195. (just $33 per week). Includes 2.5 hours weekly class time, demonstrations, a binder with all class notes, weekly assignments and critiques.
Class Outline
Week 1 - Introduction to Photography
Knowing your camera parts and functions.
Manual verses automatic settings.
The making of a photo, how it all works (film &digital).
Week 2 - The Shutter and Aperture
Controlling light and motion.
Week 3 Exposure
How the shutter and aperture work together.
Light Metering.
Week 4 - Composition / Lens / Perspective
Subject placement for the greatest impact, the basic guidelines to follow.
The 12 elements of an award winning image.
Choosing lens, focal length, depth of field control.
Understanding perspective.
Week 5 - Lighting
Direction and quality of light, indoor & outdoor.
When to use flash.
Color balance.
Week 6 - The Finishing Touch & Mini Presentation
Discussion about the various printing options for display.
Enhancing your images with matting/framing.
Decorating with photography.
Each student will present one final image for critique.
