Basic Photography Class

A six week course on the Basics of Photography will be held at the studio of Denise Smith Photography beginning Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6:30-9:00pm. Sign up and learn the principles of taking better photos.

Students are required to have their own 35 mm (film or digital) camera. NO point and shoot cameras.

Class size is STRICTLY limited. The Class fee is $195. (just $33 per week). Includes 2.5 hours weekly class time, demonstrations, a binder with all class notes, weekly assignments and critiques.

Class Outline

Week 1 - Introduction to Photography
Knowing your camera parts and functions.
Manual verses automatic settings.
The making of a photo, how it all works (film &digital).

Week 2 - The Shutter and Aperture
Controlling light and motion.

Week 3 Exposure
How the shutter and aperture work together.
Light Metering.

Week 4 - Composition / Lens / Perspective
Subject placement for the greatest impact, the basic guidelines to follow.
The 12 elements of an award winning image.
Choosing lens, focal length, depth of field control.
Understanding perspective.

Week 5 - Lighting
Direction and quality of light, indoor & outdoor.
When to use flash.
Color balance.

Week 6 - The Finishing Touch & Mini Presentation
Discussion about the various printing options for display.
Enhancing your images with matting/framing.
Decorating with photography.

Each student will present one final image for critique.

Pretty Princess Day with Salon Tres Chic

Densie Smith Photography is excited to announce a series of photo events with Salon Tres Chic.

Our first event will be Pretty Princess Day on March 20th from 9am to 2pm. This is a special opportunity for girls, ages 2 through tweens, to feel like a Pretty Princess with packages that include getting their hair professionally done and having a little makeup applied (optional) as well as having a 30 minute portrait session right at the salon to create a memorable keepsake.

There are two packages to choose from:

Package 1 for $149 plus tax
Includes: hair styling, make-up application, 30 minute portrait session and an 8x10 custom portrait print.

Package 2 for $285 plus tax
Includes: hair styling, make-up application, 30 minute portrait session and a personalized "Kid Quote" book. These are fun photo books filled with the best-of-the-best quotes from those little people who have lots of (cute and funny) things to say. We'll give you a list of several "kid questions," you pick 10 and then ask your Pretty Princess to answer them and VOILA! Your very own "Quirky Kid Quote" book will be created. There are different templates to choose from, so you can make it custom to your child. Sample "Kid Quote" book.

Additional prints, gifts and books can be ordered a la carte.

The portrait session for each Pretty Princess will include a beautifully painted background and an assortment of age appropriate props from hats to a tea party setting. We suggest keeping your Pretty Princess's clothing simple - white, ivory or pastels dresses. We will also have our personal selection of dresses to choose from. You will view your session on a computer at the salon where you will choose your favorite portraits and/or "Kid Quote" book template. Payment in full is required with the order and your package will be available at the salon for pick up at your convenience.
